You’ve seen them on your favourite sports personalities, Instagram profiles and celebrities. But what are Silicone Wedding Ring Bands and why are people wearing them?
Well, they’re exactly as they’re described, they’re made from silicone and are designed to be worn instead of a traditional metal wedding ring or band.
The reasons for people wearing them as opposed to traditional precious metal rings are multiple; it could be safer and less hazardous in your work by wearing non-metal, there’s a much lower price point and in these changing times, everyone’s looking for something different.
Many sports, especially contact sports do not allow jewelry and particularly rings, on the fild of play. And for obvious reasons; they’re dangerous to both the wearer and others on the field. Something made of metal and caught in contact with force can do damage.
However, silicone being what it is, is soft and flexible and allows sportsmen and sportswomen to continue to pursue their passion, whilst still showing their off field commitments.
Are you a sportsperson or someone who has an active job? Do you have a high chance of losing your ring? Or maybe you’re a bit more clumsy with these sorts of things and want some a bit less risky that won’t break the bank (or a heart) if it gets lost.
That 18ct white gold wedding band may look the business on day 1, but there are going to be scratches, dings and if ever lost, a significant dent to the pocket. Plus, it’s highly unlikley you’ll be able to find the same thing again.
Silicone wedding bands can be reproduced and given their low price point, if you know the eventuality is more likely than not that you’ll need a replacement – just get two to begin with!
Another note; risk of theft is greatly reduced as the black market trade of stealing and melting down silicone wedding bands to make teeth isn’t very well established. Phew!
Let’s face it; traditions may last, but the application changes. Gold was the precious metal of choice, then more recently white gold. Ladies now love Princess and Emerald cut diamonds – who knows what the next will be.
The next trend or evolution in wedding rings is silicone, especially if you’re an active person. Plus, just like watches and other jewelry, why not buy a few of varying designs and colours to match your wardrobe.
Who said accessorising couldn’t be extended to your ring finger?
